Beautiful Petunia, or Tooney; for short is a 2 1/2 yrs old Either American Foxhound or Walker Coonhound (??) , fully vetted, UTD on vaccs including flea and HW prevention. She LOVES other dogs and is very quick to be inquisitive of them, and make friends. On the other hand, she is scared of humans and it takes her a while to warm up. She has been this way for a while now, so we hesitated on placement right away. Petunia is doing well in her temporary foster home and has warmed up to her caretaker there, but it has taken time and patience. Petunia needs a doggie companion for sure that will run and play with her. When I say she LOVES dogs, that's no lie. She will come right to you if you have a dog with you. Petunia is housebroken and uses a doggie door. She also has her "safe" places she likes to go to in the house....behind a chair or to the bedroom. Sometimes she will get up on the couch and chill. Petunia has that wonderful Hound Dog Howl that can be appreciated by anyone that loves this breed. Hers is quite deep...makes you laugh because it sounds like it couldn't be coming from her. Petunia needs someone that can be very patient with her, and let her be on her terms with adjusting. We feel that having a doggie companion is vital for her. She also needs a fenced in yard....at least 6 foot high. Petunia has quite a vertical!!!! Until she gets to really know someone, if she got loose, she wouldn't just come to you. We have seen this first hand. She can be trusted outside the fence at her current placement, but that was only after months of building trust. Her volunteer caregiver had a trainer come and work with Petunia, hoping that he might be able to explain her fear and distrust. He thinks she was born this way.
