Calico - Molly - Medium - Adult - Female - Cat
Molly is a dilute calico approximately 5 years old. She is FelV negative and FIV positive and very sweet and loving. PPI has gotten her up to date on all her shots and surgery. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Molly, please contact Dena at Humane Ohio at 419-266-xxxx ext. 114. Special Note: Molly is a special kitty that tested positive for FIV, and needs a loving forever home. Please read the paragraph below for more information about FIV+ cats. Facts about Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV): FIV is a slow virus that affects a cat's immune system over a period of years. FIV is a cat-only disease and cannot be spread to humans or non-feline animals. FIV is NOT a death sentence. FIV+ cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. Unlike the Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), FIV is not easily passed between cats. It CANNOT be spread through casual contact, such as sharing food bowls, grooming, litter boxes, or living in the same area. It is rarely spread from a mother to her kittens. FIV is primarily transmitted to other cats through blood transfusions, badly infected gums, or serious, penetrating bite wounds. (Bite wounds of this kind are extremely RARE, except in free-roaming, un-neutered tomcats.) FIV+ cats can co-exist happily with FIV-negative cats. A neutered indoor cat is extremely unlikely to infect other cats, if properly introduced. Proper integration is critical, as well as an honest assessment of the cats' personalities. Many vets are not fully educated about FIV since the virus was only discovered in the xxxx's. For example, it may not be common knowledge that it is possible for young kittens to test false-positive due to antibodies from their mothers milk. Cats that have already been vaccinated for FIV may also test false-positive. The search for treatment and/or cure has been just as difficult as the search for a human HIV cure. FIV+ cats should be kept as healthy as possible. Keep them in a clean, indoor, low-stress environment, and feed them a high-quality diet. Separate FIV+ cats from any other pets whenever they are sick with contagious illnesses (such as upper respiratory infections). This is because FIV+ cats may catch secondary illnesses more easily than normal cats. FIV+ cats' health should be monitored, and any sign of secondary illness needs to be treated by a vet immediately (same as any other cat). - See more at: http://www.plannedpethood.org/cats/available.html
