Max is a special dog with some special needs. He's a Lab/Chow Chow mix who just turned 3. He was originally adopted from us when he was a puppy, and through no fault of his own, he was returned. He's shy with strangers; definitely responds better to women than to men; and can become scared by the sudden and unpredictable movements of small children. Another of his fears is anything thrown overhand -- he's fine with an underhand toss. On the flip side though, once Max trusts someone, he's all in and becomes the most wonderful guy imaginable. He's playful, happy and above all, loving. He doesn't always make a good first impression though -- that pesky fear thing makes him bark at people he doesn't know when they stop at his kennel. But anyone willing to take a little time with him will have a friend for life in Max. He enjoys running with his peeps, but he's not a big fan of toys. He also loves to lay down for a thorough belly rub, but his most favorite thing of all (other than getting a treat) is to sit on the lap of someone he trusts, getting petted and talked to all the while -- his tail doesn't stop wagging. Max doesn't give his heart to just anyone, but he gives it completely when he does. He has become a favorite of both staff and volunteers, but we all want him to be safe and loved in his very own home. Come and meet Max and take the time to see what an incredible dog he is.
